Sparkles in JOUR2

JOUR2 is a refresher. In fact, my major was half-Journalism(It's actually called "Chinese Media Writing and Production") before I came to the U.S.. Theories and ethics are my old friends and I loved ethics that we can discuss and make a ethical judgement on a behavior based on our reason; but I also hated ethics since I can never have an exact answer.

I guess it is because Chinese and Hong Kong media "borrowed" theories and ethics from western countries as they see newspaper in a ethical way first, they built a consummate system and rules for media.

JOUR2 is a color pen that drew my another map on media. I learnt about media in Hong Kong and China, now I learn about America. It doesn't surprise me lot since the media share the same code but the freedom of press between China and America has a big different.

It is true that China government starts to broaden the freedom of press but still has strict rules to limit what reporters can report. News in America has less restrictions and people can read different opinions (but who knows, people have their selective memory and people have a firm stand would not be moved by the media).

A thought in my mind is: I guess I will never know how to write a blog, but I enjoy writing, reading and commenting blogs. Thank you JOUR2.

P.s. I want to write about the oldie song in mine which is "Where are you now" by Honor Society. It reminds me of my wonderful old days with my dear friends and teachers I like, but also telling me to move on, meet more amazing people and things in my life.

Honor Society - Where are you now

----- Behind the scene -------

Although I love writing and meanings behind stories, media writing and production nor Journalism are not my favorites. Plus, soon I find out I am not a good reporter and my interests is not reporting. I don't have the ambition to speak for people who have no say, truth seeker is not my aim too. I will keep finding, searching till I reach the place I want to be.

Libel case -- 2Face Idibia sued Icon Magazine for libel

Case study: 2Face Idibia sued Icon Magazine for libel
Video: 2face Idibia Slams N100million Lawsuit Against Icon Magazine for libel

Icon Weekly, which is a soft-sell magazine, published a story in March,2014 of 2Face Idibia "committed adultery" and the lady who involved in this story had every intention of keeping a baby.

The story spread over the Internet which 2Face later denied and 2face spent 100 million suit against Icon Weekly that 2Face's reputation was being damaged for the libelous publication posted on the magazine's online and print platforms.

On July 20, 2014 Icon Weekly apologized for not confirming the story and for the embarrassment the matter has caused 2Face.
This story tells us about the importance of doing researches and confirmation before public a story on any kind of media since a fake story or wrong information can cause a lot, even lose credibility though magazine is less related to credibility sometimes, but the accuracy is still one of the essential criterions of a media.

How advertisements affect us?

This is a advertisement of Colgate toothpaste. It showed the scientific evidences of bacteria 12 hours after brushing with regular fluoride toothpaste and at the end it claimed Colgate is no.1 toothpaste brand used by dentists. "Testimonial" and "scientific appeal" were being used to make customers to believe they are the best toothpaste in dentist area.

It's advertising Pepsi by using "Bandwagon effect", "emotional appeal", "testimonial", "plain folks appeal".

Pepsi in this advertisement is the symbol of "new generation". If the audience consider her/himself belongs to new generation, then they may buy the idea. Secondly, it's the chance that you can "share" the experience with your idol because your idol is also drinking Pepsi. Children in the advertisement represented fans of Michael Jackson and they got a chance to meet their idol through drinking Pepsi.

I am curious about......

Product placement in movies and dramas
  • When it becomes popular? Which movie/who started the trend? Why product placement is needed?
  • How product placement works?

What if movies without sound effects/suitable background musics(BGM)
  • When does audience get used to movies with sounds?
  • What is/are the importance of sound effects/background music?

Why the quality of Hong Kong dramas is being criticized?
  • What the criticality is/are?

  • Comparing the characteristics in “golden time” and now of Hong Kong dramas
  • Is/are the criticality true or not?

Want some classic movies?

2013-2014 Favourite movie in mine
The King's Speech (2010) NR
Director: Tom Hooper
Writer: David Seidler
Cast: King George VI(Colin Firth), Lionel Logue(Geoffrey Rush), Queen Elizabeth(Helena Bonham Carter)
Genres: Drama

The King's Speech has a good balance between seriousness and relaxation. It doesn't rush when it has to be slow to show how the story goes; it doesn't drag when it explains the process of main character's recovery. What's more, I admire the elaborate dialogue but it more than just the dialogue itself, the acting is just right with the dialogue. I watched it because it was shared by my friend.

Best scenes: I have a voice

All-time favourite movie in mine
The intouchables (2011) R
Director: Olivier Nakache, Eric Toledano
Writer: Olivier Nakache, Eric Toledano
Cast: François Cluzet(Philippe), Omar Sy(Driss)
Genres: Drama, Comedy

The intouchables talks about the friendship between a white rich man Philippe, who is disable because of an accident and a black man Driss, who just served his jail time. Philippe hired Driss to take care of him, Driss did something ridiculous while taking care of Philippe, but that is what Philippe needs.

Fate can bring us anywhere, bring us to anyone that makes you understand how's other life like. In our whole life, there must be some people that you treat them like everything but they treated you like nothing; and few people that teach us we are unique, we are deserved to be treated like a treasure in the world. I watched it on a steaming website.

Best scenes: "No feet, no sweets"

Recommended
Flight (2012) R
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Writer: John Gatins
Starring: Whip Whitaker(Denzel Washington), Katerina Marquez(Nadine Velazquez)
Genres: Drama, Thriller

Flight is a story about courage, facing the faults that we have made. This is a movie that perfectly shows what the five stages of loss and grief. We may not save lives like what Whitaker did but his struggling to do the right thing just like how we struggle all the time. Whitaker did not get away from what he did, he served his sentence and faced what happened. I watched Flight in MLC cinema which located in Hong Kong, I was surprised by the scene when the plane crashed into a house.
